Privacy policy

Who is responsible?

Pilgrimways (pilgrimways.eu) is a site run by Ronald Schouw, the Netherlands. If you have any questions about privacy, you can get in touch via the contact form or at [email protected].

In short

You don't need an account, and this site doesn't set any tracking cookies. I don't sell any data, and I don't build profiles of visitors.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, I receive your name, your email address (if you fill it in) and your message by email. I only use that information to reply to your message. It isn't stored on the site. I keep your email for as long as it takes to deal with your question, and then I delete it, after 3 months at the latest. The legal basis is your consent: it's your choice to write to me.

Visitor statistics

To see which pages are being read, I use WP Statistics on my own server, without cookies and with anonymised IP addresses. It doesn't let me see who you are.

Services your browser uses

To display the pages you request, your browser fetches data from these services. Your IP address goes to those parties when it does so, just as with any website you visit:

  • OpenStreetMap for the maps;
  • Open-Meteo for the weather forecast;
  • Wikimedia Commons for some photos of albergues;
  • Cloudflare, which protects the site and keeps it fast.

Your browser remembers the weather forecast for an hour, so that it loads faster next time. This is stored only on your own device. The legal basis is legitimate interest: without these services, the map and the weather wouldn't work. The fonts are hosted on this site's own server.

Booking links (Stay22)

Some booking links go through Stay22. Only once you click on such a link can Stay22 and the booking site, such as Booking.com, keep track of the fact that you came from this site. Their own privacy policies apply to that. If you don't click, nothing happens.

Hosting

The site is hosted by IONOS in Germany. The server keeps technical logs, including your IP address among other things, for security and to deal with faults. These are deleted after 7 days.

Your rights

You can ask what data I hold about you, and ask me to correct or delete it. To do so, send a message via the contact form or to [email protected]. If you disagree with how I handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch Data Protection Authority).

Liability

I have put everything together with care, but I am not liable for incorrect information or for any damage resulting from it.
