This last stage is mostly about stamina: well over 7 hours on the move, with gentle hills rolling up and down. Nothing to lose sleep over, but enough to make your legs feel it. Walk at an even pace and take your breaks.

Along the way you leave Portugal. At Vilarelho da Raia you walk into Spain, where it is an hour later. Your day suddenly seems shorter, so bear that in mind. This is also where the Portuguese route ends: in Verín you join the Camino Sanabrés, via Ourense to Santiago. You walk into Verín, report to the public albergue and put your rucksack down. The whole Portuguese route is behind you.

Tips for this stage

  • Put your watch forward an hour as soon as you are in Spain.
  • Take enough food and drink with you for the whole day.
  • Want to continue to Santiago? Then from Verín you follow the Camino Sanabrés.
