You’ll soon leave Vila do Bispo behind: a few streets, the last whitewashed houses, and then the land opens up. No crowds, hardly any traffic. Just the wind, which keeps you company from your very first step.
It’s an easy day. The path rises and falls gently, and the highest point stays low. Your legs have little to do, but your mind has plenty. It’s almost 6 hours of walking, but it feels shorter. Towards Sagres the landscape becomes barer and wider. You smell the sea before you see it. At the end, low bushes bend in the wind and, beyond the cliffs, the Atlantic Ocean rolls on to the horizon.
