In Sigüeiro you sink into a seat on a café terrace and what you notice most is your feet. It wasn’t a spectacular day, but it was a long one. You’re on the move for almost seven hours, with more descents than climbs. That sounds kind, but your knees will notice.

Today the Camino follows narrow lanes, past fields and through eucalyptus groves. Every now and then a stretch of asphalt runs alongside a busier road. Villages follow one another at an easy pace. It’s a day for finding your rhythm and letting the kilometres come. You only climb now and then, and the highest point of the day is nothing much. Mostly it’s one long, even descent towards Santiago. When you look back, you see rolling green hills and meadows where the cows glance up for a moment. The scent of eucalyptus hangs above you.

Tips for this stage

  • Look after your knees on the descents: take small steps and use poles if you like.
  • Plan a long break halfway. Almost seven hours of walking is plenty of reason for a proper lunch.
  • Tomorrow you walk into Santiago. Get your things ready tonight.
