Alija del Infantado is a quiet village on the plain, and the day’s walk feels much the same. You arrive without your legs having noticed any climbing. You will have been walking for almost six hours, though, and your feet will let you know it.
You leave Benavente behind quickly. After that it’s open country: fields, wide skies and long straight stretches where the horizon barely seems to get any closer. Shade is scarce. The differences in height are so small that you almost forget them. The challenge lies in the monotony and the sun, not in the climbs. Settle into an easy pace and let your thoughts wander. That’s how the kilometres pass, one by one.
