Oviedo comes after more than 9 hours of walking. Your legs know exactly what they’ve been through, and then suddenly there’s the city with its cathedral. This is where the Salvador ends. If you want to carry on to Santiago, the Camino Primitivo begins here.

Looking back, it was a day of ups and downs, with little chance to rest. The descents weigh on you just as heavily as the climbs by the end. Eat well along the way and walk at your own pace, because this stretch won’t be rushed. What you take with you are the green hills and the forest, which you slowly leave behind as the city draws closer.

Tips for this stage

  • Start early and eat well along the way. There are few places to rest on this stage.
  • Go easy on your knees on the descents: in total you go down more than you go up.
  • Want to carry on to Santiago? Then plan a rest day in Oviedo before the Primitivo.
