This day is all about stamina. You’ll be walking for almost 8 hours, and you’ll feel it in your feet first, and only then in your legs. It never gets properly steep, as the hills stay low. But it’s up and down all day, and that adds up.
You leave Mértola, high above the Guadiana, and leave the river behind you. The landscape becomes wider and emptier. So take food and drink with you for the whole day.
Amendoeira da Serra is small. A place to sleep isn’t a given here. So arrange something in advance, or choose a town before or beyond it. That way you can walk those last kilometres at a relaxed pace.
Break the day into short sections and take your time. The Camino isn’t going anywhere.
