Today your legs simply do what they’re meant to do. There’s no climb to wake you up and no descent to nag at your knees. The road slopes downhill more often than up, and your rhythm comes naturally.
The landscape is wide and open: grain fields, olive trees, lots of sky. There’s little to distract you, so your mind settles. There is very little shade, though, so in summer the sun is your biggest opponent. After a good 5 hours of walking, you arrive in Cuba: whitewashed houses, a quiet little square, a bench in the sun. Rucksack off, shoes off.
