You walk out of Fronteira and the village is soon behind you. Then comes open country with cork oaks, olive trees and big skies. The path climbs and descends, but never for long at a time. The highest point is nothing special. Over some 25 kilometres, though, those little hills add up, and there is not shade everywhere.
Allow about seven hours of walking. Keep your pace even and take a proper break halfway. At the end Alter do Chão appears, a town with a castle and a long tradition of horse breeding. You arrive with heavy legs and a contented mind. Put your rucksack down, have something hot to eat and enjoy the evening.
