San Sebastián lets you go quietly. First there are the city streets, then the route climbs and you look back over the bay from above. After that, the city is truly behind you.
It’s a day of ups and downs along the Basque coast. You climb almost 600 metres in total, spread over hills that keep dropping you back down towards the sea. Nothing monstrous, but enough to make your legs feel it. Between the climbs you have views over green hills and water. Zarautz announces itself with a long beach, often full of surfers, and you walk into the town alongside the sea. At almost 7 hours on the clock, this is not a day to rush. Feel free to plan in plenty of time for breaks.
