Colunga is quiet, and that’s how you’ll feel after this stage. Your legs are still fresh and your head is full of green. It makes for an easy day.
From Ribadesella you walk through the Asturias of meadows, farms and small villages, with the occasional glimpse of the Cantabrian Sea. You climb and descend constantly, but never for long. You won’t get much higher than about a hundred metres. It’s almost 20 kilometres, so you’ll still have the afternoon ahead of you. Plenty of time to stop along the way for a coffee or a chat with a fellow pilgrim.
In Colunga you put down your rucksack and take off your shoes. You find a terrace, order a glass of sidra, the way it’s done here, and watch the village start its afternoon.
