Betanzos is the turning point of this day. This is where the Camino heads inland and the real work begins.

This is a long stage of over 36 kilometres, with more than 900 metres of climbing. If you want to split it, stay the night in Betanzos. That way you save the climb for tomorrow. If you carry on, take time for a stop in the town and eat something substantial before you set off again.

The second half asks for patience. It climbs for a long time and you have to find your rhythm. In Bruma, the Camino Inglés from A Coruña joins your route, so from here you will be walking with more pilgrims. You will find the public albergue, put your rucksack down and finally take your boots off.

Tips for this stage

  • Want to split the stage? Stay in Betanzos, and you will have the climb left for tomorrow.
  • Eat well in Betanzos and take food with you for the climb that follows.
  • Set off early: with breaks, you will be walking into the evening.
