You leave Guillena behind without much fuss: a few streets, and you’re already out among the fields. Day two is a gentle one. The path climbs slowly towards the hills of the Sierra Norte, and you hardly descend at all.
Climbing a little over 300 metres doesn’t sound like much. But it’s spread across the whole day, so you notice it mainly in your legs rather than as a steep wall. You’re on the road for almost five hours. On the open stretches there’s little to shelter you from the sun. If you start in the morning, you’ll walk into Castilblanco de los Arroyos before it gets properly hot. That leaves the afternoon for a bit of washing, a drink on a terrace and putting your feet up.
