You arrive in San Pedro de Rozados with a good stretch of Spain behind you. Almost 28 kilometres, and you’ll feel it. This isn’t a day with one nasty climb. It’s a day that just keeps going.
From Fuenterroble you walk through open, rolling countryside of oak trees, stone walls and pasture. The route keeps rising and falling, but it’s never really steep. On the highest stretch, at well over 1100 metres, the wind can be chilly. After that the route eases gently downhill and you mostly just tick off the kilometres. Moderately tough, but to be honest, mainly long.
The village is quiet as you walk in between the first houses. You slip your rucksack off your shoulders, take off your boots and watch the afternoon sun sink over the rooftops.
