In Güemes, the day slips away from you. There’s a well-known, welcoming pilgrim albergue here, and after this stage it feels like coming home.
Looking back, it began gently. First you walk along the long beach at Laredo, all the way to the end of the spit. There you board a small ferry to Santoña. It’s a short crossing and a pleasant break. Outside the season it runs less often, so check the times beforehand.
After that, it’s simply a matter of keeping going. There are a few short climbs but nothing really high, though the kilometres add up. With more than 8 hours on your legs, a chair and a cold beer are more than welcome. You’ve earned it.
