At Grañón you leave La Rioja behind and walk into Castilla y León. That’s the moment this day changes character. The landscape becomes wider and more open, with fields of grain and plenty of sky.
Don’t expect a proper climb. The path rolls gently up and down, and it’s easy going. There is little shade, though, and the path runs alongside the road for long stretches. That calls mainly for patience. Allow a good six hours, including a coffee stop in one of the villages along the way. You reach Belorado without a big finale, just with a little less energy in your legs. There is a public pilgrim albergue. Take your time: this is a day for simply walking.
