Your legs are still fresh, but your head is full. It’s the first day and you can feel it. Everything is new, your rucksack still sits oddly on your hips and you look twice at every yellow arrow. After the cathedral in Oviedo you leave the city behind and the route heads into the green hill country of Asturias.
It’s an average day, with a good seven hours of walking. The climbs are manageable and you descend more than you climb overall, but the kilometres add up. So take it steady. The Primitivo saves the hard work for later. You walk into Grado feeling content and perhaps with a first blister. That comes with the territory. Start gently and you’ll go far.
