It’s only when you walk into Cáceres that you really feel what you’ve just done. More than 37 kilometres lie behind you. The walled old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits there as if nothing were the matter. An arrival like this makes up for a lot.
Looking back, it was above all a long, open day. There’s hardly any climbing or descending, but the kilometres keep coming. You pass meadows, holm oaks and low stone walls, and after a few hours all you can hear is your own footsteps. It takes almost ten hours. If you’d rather not do it in one go, you can stay overnight in Valdesalor. Cáceres has a public albergue. Give your feet some attention tonight, they’ve earned it.
