You leave Aldeanueva del Camino behind on quiet paths. The last houses soon fall away and the land begins to rise, barely noticeable at first. At Baños de Montemayor, an old spa town, it’s time for coffee. The real work is still to come.
Because after that, you climb the mountain. The highest point is at over 900 metres and it’s also a border: you leave Extremadura and walk into Castilla y León. Stop for a moment and look back. Then the road descends gently to La Calzada de Béjar, a small village where you arrive tired but content.
A day to go at your own pace. Let the mountain come.
