You walk into Évora and the city wraps itself around you straight away: white houses, old walls, a Roman temple standing right in the middle of the centre. This is exactly how a day should end.
Looking back, it was above all a long day, not a steep one. The route rises and falls gently through open Alentejo countryside, with cork oaks and plenty of sky above you. It’s never really hard, but more than six hours of walking calls for a good rhythm. The landscape is wide and unhurried, and that is part of the day’s charm. Once you reach Évora, you put down your rucksack and enjoy the city. Take your time, it deserves it.
