The path winds through low scrub, the ocean never far away. The sand crunches under your shoes and the cliffs turn gold in the morning light. This is the last day of the Fishermen’s Trail, and it’s a gentle one.
It goes up and down, but never for long at a stretch. With almost three hours of walking, you have plenty of time to stop at a bay or a viewpoint. And to take in the fact that you’ve walked all the way here from Porto Covo. Then Lagos appears: first the rooftops, then the harbour. You walk into town with sand in your shoes and a broad grin. So don’t start the day too early. That way you’ll have the afternoon left for the beach or a café terrace.
