Behind you, the old city of Cáceres is left lying in the morning light. Ahead of you is dehesa: holm oaks, stone walls and plenty of open sky. The path isn’t steep, and you actually descend more than you climb. Even so, it all adds up, because you’re on the move for more than 9 hours. In summer the open country heats up quickly, so the sun sets your pace.
At the end, the Alcántara reservoir awaits. Please note: the place to stay there was listed as temporarily closed. Check in advance whether you can spend the night here. That way you won’t end up standing at a locked door after a long day. So work out what your plan B is before you leave Cáceres.
