It’s all about the Otsondo pass. From Urdax you work your way up, steep and long, and even after that there’s still a good stretch to go. This is a long stage of around 28 kilometres.
After the pass, you drop down into the Baztán valley. The landscape becomes softer and greener, with farmhouses scattered across the hillsides. You walk through Elizondo, a lovely spot for a coffee and a hearty lunch. After that, the walking carries on for quite a while, and you feel every descent in your legs.
Eventually Berroeta quietly comes into view. You walk into the village, rucksack off, shoes off. Nothing more is needed for now.
