This is a day for legs that just get on with it. No climb to wake you up, no descent that bites. Your mind can drift onto autopilot for a while, if only because Santiago is now almost on your doorstep. From Caldas de Reis, known for its hot springs, it takes you about five hours to reach Padrón.
On this stage you share the route with the Caminho Português Central: the same road, the same albergues. So expect more pilgrims around you than you’ve been used to over the past few days. Padrón has long been known as the town of the pimientos de Padrón, the small green peppers. Some are hot, others aren’t. In the church stands the stone pillar to which, according to legend, the boat of St James was moored. There is a public albergue, so after you arrive you’ll have time for a bit of washing and a stroll.
