Your legs will notice the constant up and down most of all today. There’s no huge climb, but you’ll gain well over 500 metres in lots of short stretches. In your head it’s busy at first, then quiet. You leave Avilés past industry and main roads, and then the green begins: hills, woodland, small villages.
The highest point stays low, so it never gets truly tough. It’s more a matter of keeping going. At the end you arrive in Muros de Nalón, a quiet village on the coast, after a day that lasts longer than the kilometres suggest. With almost 7 hours of walking plus breaks, it’s best to set off at a relaxed pace in the morning. That way you won’t be racing the clock in the afternoon.
