Sand underfoot and the coolness of the morning still hanging over the fields. After the forest at San Juan de Ortega, the landscape opens up. You descend more than you climb, so the first few hours seem to pass by themselves. Still, it’s around 25 kilometres and a good 6 hours on the road. You only really feel that at the end.
The last kilometres before Burgos are less beautiful. Suburbs, industry, a lot of tarmac. It seems to take forever before the city properly begins. So keep something in your legs for the finish. Then you suddenly find yourself standing in front of the cathedral, and that makes up for a lot. Burgos has a public albergue. Save your visit to the cathedral for tomorrow morning, when you’ll still have the energy for it. Take a rest day here.
