Puebla de Sanabria is a lovely reward. The old town climbs up the hill, with the castle at the top. After more than 8 hours of walking, you’ll be glad of every bench and every kerb. Your legs now know exactly what you did today.
The day itself isn’t dramatic. There’s no wall of a climb, just kilometres that keep on coming, with the highest point just over a thousand metres. If you want to shorten this long day, stay the night in Asturianos. Then you can carry on tomorrow with a lighter start. Behind you, the broad tracks stay behind, across heath and meadow, with dark hills in the distance.
