Vila Nova de Milfontes lets go of you slowly. The white houses fall behind you, and so does the mouth of the Mira. After that, the Atlantic coast takes over.
It’s an easy day of about 14 kilometres. There are a few gentle rises and falls, but the highest point stays low, so you won’t have any real climbing to do. What does take its toll is the sand. In places the path turns soft and slows you down, so you’ll still be walking for almost four hours. Wind and sun keep you company for nearly the whole day. Almograve comes quietly into view, a small coastal village with the sea right on its doorstep. Put on plenty of sunscreen in the morning, as there’s little shade.
