To your left lies low heathland, to your right the Atlantic Ocean. The path follows the cliff edge, crosses gentle dunes and runs along sandy tracks that slow your pace. With every bend, the coastline shifts a little further along.
It’s an easy stage. The ups and downs balance each other out, the hills are short and you quickly find your rhythm. There’s hardly any shade, so sun and wind are your constant companions. You walk about 19 kilometres and arrive in Carrapateira, a quiet village close to the coast. With just over five hours of walking, you’ll have the afternoon left for the beach or a long lunch.
