Woods, hills and small villages: that’s how the day unfolds. The path climbs and drops almost without a break. On the highest stretch, you look out far across the countryside. You will have earned that view.
At around 32 kilometres, this is a long, hard day. The descents are at least as tough as the climbs, especially on your knees. Pace yourself, because the first climb is not the only one. Lamego lies in wine country, and you will arrive tired but very hungry. Set off at first light, so you have time for breaks and walk into town before dusk.
