Today is all about stamina. There’s no single climb to tick off, just an endless series of hills: up, down, and up again. After more than 8 hours of walking, you arrive in Lamego.
The height gain in itself isn’t too bad. It’s the total that gets you. The descents in particular take their toll. You lose around 850 metres, and you’ll feel it in your knees and toes. Pace yourself, take breaks and eat on time.
Lamego is a proper city, with a cathedral and, high above it, the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios with its famous staircase. You might want to leave that for this evening. Take your time today, the city isn’t going anywhere.
