You walk into Sangüesa with heavy legs and a contented mind. The public albergue is waiting, and a seat in the shade isn’t bad either. Behind you lies a day that was tougher than the distance suggests.
Right after Ruesta, you have to get stuck in straight away: over 300 metres of climbing, steep and with no detour. After that it gets calmer, but it’s not easy. You descend far more than you climb, and you feel that most in your knees. The landscape is open and wide, with little to distract you from your own pace. Take a moment to look around as you go. Behind you, the dry hills roll away into the warm air until they fade on the horizon.
