Red earth, rows of vines and olive trees stretching to the horizon. That is how the Tierra de Barros unfolds around you today. The land is wide and open, with little shade. The route is kind: slightly more descent than climbing, and no ascent that will wear you out.
You soon leave Zafra behind. After that, it is mostly you, the path and the sky above you. Villafranca de los Barros is a quiet wine town, where you arrive without any rush. It is almost 20 kilometres, a good five hours of walking. If you start early, you will be there by mid-afternoon, with plenty of time to do your washing.
