Vegetable plots, maize and low granite walls: that’s how the day begins, just outside Tui. A yellow arrow shows you the way, and you’ll rarely be walking alone here. On this stage the Camino de Torres joins the Caminho Português Central: the same route, the same albergues, and pilgrims who have already been on the road for days, coming up from the south.

It’s not steep, as the hills rise and fall gently. The hard part is the distance: around 9 hours on your feet. Around O Porriño, roughly halfway, you walk for a long stretch on asphalt past industrial estates. After that, the landscape becomes more rural again. In Redondela, a public pilgrim albergue awaits you. On the last stretch you’ll smell eucalyptus, with granite walls lining the path.

Tips for this stage

  • It's a long day: start early, so you walk most of it in the cool of the morning.
  • Around O Porriño, roughly halfway, do take a proper break before the second half.
  • Lots of asphalt and paved road: choose shoes with good cushioning and look after your feet.
