Frómista is easy to leave behind. A few more streets and the fields take over. This is the meseta: wide, flat, with a horizon that never seems to get any closer. You’ll barely notice any change in height, so your legs get an easy day.
What does matter is the sun. There’s little shade, and for a good stretch the path runs flat alongside the road. You pass through small villages. In Villalcázar de Sirga stands a strikingly large church, Santa María la Blanca. After that it’s a straight run on to Carrión de los Condes, a proper town where you’ll arrive with energy to spare. Take it easy. The meseta doesn’t like a rush.
