Holm oaks and dry pastures as far as you can see. From Grimaldo you walk through the dehesa, that open landscape of scattered trees where cattle graze here and there. Shade is scarce and the sky is huge.
Almost 30 kilometres is a long way, but the terrain is gentle. It undulates a little, and you descend more than you climb. The challenge is mainly the distance and the sun. Galisteo, with its medieval town wall, is a lovely spot for a proper break. After that the land becomes flatter and more open. Carcaboso only comes into view late on, a village in the middle of the plain. The last kilometres run dead straight alongside fields, with the horizon far away and your shadow stretching long ahead of you.
